    EFMP

As a military family knowing the resources available for your family is a must. Many families in the military have exceptional family members that tag along in our military career and its journey. Exceptional family members are those who fall under categories where special needs need to be met.  The Exceptional family member program was put in place to help with resources and guide families to thrive while taking on the different steps that an exceptional family member might encounter. This help is both medical and educational. But, how do you enroll a family member? There is EFMP for each military branch. Click on the links below according to your service branch. Army https://www.myarmyonesource.com/familyprogramsandservices/familyprograms/exceptionalfamilymemberprogram/default.aspx Navy https://www.public.navy.mil/BUPERS-NPC/SUPPORT/EFM/Pages/default.aspx Marine Corps https://usmc-mccs.org/services/family/exceptional-family-member/ Air Force https://www.afpc.af.mil/Benefits-and-Entitlements/Exceptional-Family-Member-Program/ You can also enroll by searching for EFMP through Military installations using the zip code or base you are living in. https://installations.militaryonesource.mil/ Why is enrollment important? EFMP is there to support your family to make sure your special needs are met throughout your military assignments. This is a mandatory enrollment, service members enroll in EFMP when they have a family member with physical, emotional, developmental or intellectual needs. Taking on a new installation that has everything you need either medical or educational is a priority. This is very important due to how some needs might not be able to be met in more remote locations or overseas assignments.  EFMP can support your family by finding on base and local referrals, informing you about intervention services, how to apply to benefits and show entitlements, they can help you connect with other families with the same needs, understand topics within the military healthcare system, manage calls with service providers and more. The goal of EFMP is to make it easier for families to join the service member to different assignments and not make them feel excluded.  Service members will enroll family members by contacting their EFMP case coordinator at their local Military health care facility. Completion of DD Form 2792 (Family Member Medical Summary) and/or DD Form 2792-1 (Special Education/Early Intervention Summary) will constitute enrollment in the EFMP for TRICARE Extended Care Health Option (ECHO) enrollment purposes. Once enrolled, a screening process will take place so your case coordinator can work with your family in the process of finding a suitable assignment where all EFMP will be met and resources needed offered.  Remember to keep all medical and educational records with you throughout the EFMP process since some EFMP cases change status.  There are six EFMP enrollment categories which include: - Category I – for monitoring purposes only - Category II - pinpoint to specific geographic locations - Category III - no overseas assignments - Category IV - major medical areas in CONUS - Category V - homesteading - Category VI - temporary enrollment - update required in 6-12 months You can discuss these with your case coordinator since these go into more detail according to your military branch.  PCS and EFMP It is time to pcs so what happens with your EFMP assistance? When a service member receives PCS orders that is when finding out what your next duty station offers as far as EFMP resources. But before you start packing, your family member needs to go through a screening for overseas assignments only. In most cases overseas assignments require one for everyone in the household so it does depend on the assignment. Of course this is if you want an accompanied tour which in some locations such a Korea you might be given the choice of having.   If you are relocating within the U.S then your case coordinator will have the resources and information needed for your PCS. There are no specific forms to fil out unless you have not registered in the EFMP to begin with. As long as you enrolled your family member in EFMP all information will be know by Human Resources of the service branch you belong to therefore receiving orders to a new location that is capable of offering everything you need for your dependent. Disenrollment of EFMP If your family member no longer needs EFMP due to their medical or educational needs changing they will need to be unregistered. This also applies if your family member is not longer eligible to be in your DEERS due to different life circumstances such as divorce or other unusual situations.  For more information in local EFMP help here are some locations you can visit: ACS Schofield Barracks EFMP office, BDG 690, 310 Brannon Rd, Schofield Barracks.
